I had an extensive debate with my wife the other night about one of my "dumber ideas", which is simply how we as Americans can take back our government and be "We the People" with powers regained or reinstated, as in having a real say in what our government does and how it should function. <----- long sentence.
I simply believe like most Americans do, that our congress is influenced by corporate lobbyists. I also believe that our government has no real overall supervision or guidance. Basically, in better words, corruption is part of the mainstream politics.
My idea is that maybe perhaps it would be possible to remove congress, by embracing technology and giving the voting and powers back to the people. Ahhhh, the people, an impossible to lobby mass of opinionated people.
But what if......
What if you and I could log in to a government website, and be given the same list of congressional voting needs for the next week or month? A simple 2 or 3 paragraphs of truthful information on what we would be voting on, and a simple yay or nay check box, click, click, submit per item needing a yay or nay.
Am I making sense?
No?
Ok then, lets just say we replace Congressmen and Senators with the people of the United States, via a website where we could cast our votes on the materials and issues they vote on now? How's that?
Easier to understand now?
It wasn't for my wife.
She said my idea would only create a chaotic system and a crashed website. Like Obama's health insurance site. I have to agree, but the idea itself would be brilliant if it was possible.
I mean, I could have a good idea, if we had the ability to take on the role of the Congress, by using technology.
My wife said, "what would stop 1 billion people in China from voting and logging into the website?"
My answer, "ummmmmm.....a valid social security number."
She said, "Ok, but, what if people were ignorant bastards and casted yay votes on allowing interspecie marriages?"
"Then the people would have voted, and Uncle Bob can now marry his dog Fluffy." I said.
She's right. It would be total chaos. Kinda. I guess we would have to trust the people making the materials we would be voting on transparent and exclusive to being properly rational and not regarded as demented.
Perhaps we should vote if a proposal for a vote is credible.
Hey, it's an idea.....
We for Congress. .... Hash tags #becongress and toss the idea around....maybe one day we can do it. ....
Then again, maybe not. It's just an idea, or rather a thought of an idea that might have merit. Maybe. Kinda.
idk
