Protesting Police Brutality in America Will Only Go So Far.
Will the Federal Government Take Protesters Seriously? Or Continue to Ignore them?
America is wounded. Our Black Americans are wounded. The World is watching and Americans are speaking out, but is anything going to come from it?
Peaceful protests can lead to changes and can promote governments to take action, but as we watch things play out in America, we are seeing a lackluster response from the other side of the roar.
Thousands of people in major cities all across America took to the streets in protest to the deaths of Micheal Brown and Eric Garner.
The movement is there. The inertia of moving forward is prevalent and strong. Still nothing seems to bring real justice or a response worth mentioning. All the doors remained closed while the people keep knocking so to speak. So the question remains, what will it take?
We have a voice that seems to be muted in America. Ignored as well as demonized, the protests seem to carry no weight against those who should be listening. A few words here and there from some officials, but nothing being placed on the table. No notice of any telltale true attention or action. Only words. Nothing else.
We have seen violent protests that have done nothing but demonize the campaign for justice. Rioting and looting only damages the image of the people protesters are standing up for. Yet, violence or the fear of violence would make those who are ignoring the issues take real actions, but violent protests will only lead the causes for change down a road that will not bring the changes we need. Only more injustice will come from violence.
What can we do?
In order to achieve the goal of change in how police are held accountable, something must be done to undo the injustice. Our government must step in and retry both cases of Brown and Garner. No more conflicts of interest. No special treatment. No more closed door Jury handling. Killing someone should be handled no differently than any other killing. If an average person kills someone, even in self defense, they are arrested 90% of the time before they are released. Did Officer Pantaleo ever wear a pair of handcuffs?
What will it take? What will it take for our elected officials to do something?
